Alexa Stanton, an ELLWOOD EHS Intern, recently received $6,000 from the Association for Iron and Steel Technology (AIST)’s Don B. Daily Steel Intern Scholarship. Only two students are selected as recipients per year and to be eligible for this scholarship Alexa had to have a strong interest in a safety career within the iron and steel industry and had to commit to a summer internship with a steel company. Additional requirements to submit for the scholarship included but are not limited to, a cumulative GPA of 2.5, and an essay along with recommendation letters expressing interest in safety in the steel manufacturing industry.
The last two summers Alexa was employed as a laborer for Sharon Coating located in Sharon, PA. Alexa credits her time spent at Sharon Coating as sparking her interest in the steel industry. She currently is helping ELLWOOD City Forge part time during her spring semester with different projects until she begins full time in May. Once her internship is completed she will be required by AIST to write a report about her experience with Ellwood that will be included in AIST’s magazine. We look forward to having Alexa as part of the Ellwood team and congratulate her on her achievement of the scholarship.
