In 1910, our founder and his brother were at a crossroads. The forge where both worked as foremen closed, leaving them with no jobs but plenty of options. Together, they decided to acquire the shuttered forge, invest in new equipment, and make a run at creating a company that reflected their values and personal integrity. It was a bold move that set the course for ELLWOOD’s future.
ELLWOOD is well into our second century of business, and there is still a direct line from our leadership back to our founders. Now in our 5th generation of family ownership, we’ve remained private while others have traded their autonomy for the quarter-by-quarter scrutiny of Wall Street. We make decisions that make long-term sense for our 2,000 non-union team members, our stakeholders, and the communities where we work and live.
At ELLWOOD, the concept of family means more than common ancestry. It’s the standard that defines how we treat each other and the way we operate. Family takes care of each other. Family celebrates victories together and supports each other during difficult times. Families stick together and inspire the confidence to take risks, to excel, and to embrace challenges.
When you do business with ELLWOOD, we’ll welcome you at our table. We’ll treat you with respect, do what we promise, and move mountains to solve your toughest problems. After all, you can always rely on family to deliver the right way.
Our family values are simple and straightforward. We live these words everyday, in every relationship, and with every job that comes through our doors:
- Act with integrity – Do what’s right. Always.
- Strive for mutual benefit – The best outcome is one where everyone wins.
- Fulfill every promise – Be indispensable in everything we do
- Innovate every day – Every challenge is an opportunity to grow
- Keep everyone safe – Protect our people, communities, and environment
- Welcome newcomers – Customers, team members, and partners make us one of the biggest blended families around
