ELLWOOD ANNOUNCES UNIQUE SCHOLARSHIP OPPORTUNITY AVAILABLE TO GRADUATING HIGH SCHOOL SENIORS

Five $10,000 Scholarships to be Awarded to Seniors Planning to Attend Trade School Following Graduation

[New Castle, PA – March 10, 2022] ELLWOOD today announced a unique scholarship opportunity available to high school seniors, and/or those who have successfully completed the GED test, planning to attend an accredited trade school following graduation. The ELLWOOD Industrial Maintenance Scholarship is being offered to those 2022 graduates who are considering pursuing a certificate or degree in Mechatronics, or an equivalent industrial maintenance program.

The announcement today asserts ELLWOOD is committed to awarding five $10,000 scholarships as part of the 2022 Industrial Maintenance Scholarship program, a $50,000 total investment in continued education to students throughout the communities in which ELLWOOD has a presence. ELLWOOD has 27 locations throughout the United States including facilities in Pennsylvania (Ellwood City, New Castle, Hermitage, Sharon, Erie, Irvine, & Corry); Ohio (Hubbard & Stow); Michigan (Sterling Heights); and Texas (Houston & Navasota). All graduating students in and around those areas planning on pursuing a mechanical or electrical trade school degree are encouraged to apply.

Interested applicants may request more information now, including program specifics, qualifications and more, by emailing Talent@elwd.com. Applicants will be required to submit all requested documentation as detailed on the application including an essay, two letters of recommendation, resume (if available), and more.  Completed applications are due no later than Friday, April 8, and winners of the 2022 scholarships will be selected by a committee and an announcement will be made shortly after.

“We are excited to have the opportunity to launch the Industrial Maintenance Scholarship Program in the many communities in which ELLWOOD has a presence,” said Ben Huffman, ELLWOOD President and Chief Executive Officer. “To provide this unique program, in partnership with our area high schools and trade schools, reinforces our commitment to ensure students have the necessary skills they need to pursue a meaningful and successful career.”

Each scholarship is only applicable for tuition towards a Mechatronics or an equivalent industrial maintenance program at an approved/accredited trade school*.   Each selected scholarship recipient may have the opportunity to work part-time for ELLWOOD while attending their Trade School.

Additionally, after graduation from trade school, each scholarship winner will have the opportunity to gain full employment with ELLWOOD in the Industrial Maintenance Development Program, provided all pre-employment tests are satisfied. The Maintenance Development Program is a full-time opportunity for entry-level maintenance team members to participate in a six to eight-month rotation at each Business Unit in a specific region and gain experience on the different equipment and processes used by ELLWOOD.

Mechatronics is a field of engineering that merges mechanical engineering, electrical engineering, and computer science. Mechatronics specializes in robotics, control systems, and electro-mechanical systems and is an essential vocation in manufacturing. This newly formed ELLWOOD program ensures scholarship winners will have a sizable portion of their tuition covered and the chance to receive the much-needed training required to be successful in these fields.

*Examples of approved trade schools include Precision Manufacturing Institute (PMI) in Meadville, Pa.; Laurel Technical Institute (LTI) in Hermitage, Pa.; New Castle School of Trades (NCST) in New Castle, Pa.; PENN College in Williamsport, Pa.; Erie Institute of Technology (EIT) in Erie, Pa.; and Lone Star College in Houston, Texas. Other trade schools may be approved after written application and formal review by ELLWOOD.
