In conjunction with EQS, EMP, NAF and the School to Work Program, EGI sponsored our 11th annual High School Engineering Day. Students from Lawrence County Schools had the opportunity to tour our New Castle facilities, interact with ELLWOOD engineers and learn what a typical work day is like for engineers. The students were highly engaged throughout the day and asked pertinent questions of all of the presenters.
Each school researched and presented topics about engineering:
1) ELLWOOD City Rockets – Falcon Heavy
2) Laurel Innovative architectural design – Structural Stripes
3) LCCTC Hydropower
4) Mohawk Earthbag Houses
5) New Castle Green Engineering
6) Neshannock Ramps for sports – Big Bag Engineering
7) Riverside 3-D Printing
8) Shenango Computer Hardware Engineering
9) Union Robots – mining materials on Mars
Riverside High School won with their presentation about 3D printing due to the relevance of the topic and hands-on experience with 3D printing.
By exposing students to state-of-the art manufacturing facilities, EGI High School Engineering Day demonstrates there are good jobs locally for students who study the trades and engineering.
EGI’s management team is confident this day’s events helped to solidify the students’ interest in engineering and the trades as a career, as well as to consider ELLWOOD as a future potential employer.
