ELLWOOD Announces Promotions of Judy Shaffer, President of ELLWOOD Specialty Steel Group; Pam Vass, Chief Human Resources Officer; and Carrie Rust, Vice President of Human Resources

Effective August 1, 2019, ELLWOOD Group is pleased to announce the promotion of Judy Shaffer to President of ELLWOOD Specialty Steel Group (ESSG), reporting to Ben Huffman, President and CEO of ELLWOOD.

Judy joined ELLWOOD in 1993 as Quality Assurance Manager at ELLWOOD Crankshaft & Machine (ECM). She later held Director of Operations and General Manager positions at ECM, served as Quality Manager at North American Forgemasters, ELLWOOD’s 50-50 joint venture with Scot Forge, and most recently led continuous improvement efforts at ELLWOOD City Forge Group as Director of Quality since January, 2018.

Judy received a Bachelor’s degree in Mathematics from Penn State University, and holds Total Quality Management and Statistical Process Control certifications. Judy resides in New Castle, PA with her husband and two children.

Effective June 10, 2019, ELLWOOD Group was pleased to promote Pam Vass to Chief Human Resources Officer (CHRO) of ELLWOOD, reporting to Ben Huffman. Pam has served as Vice President, Human Resources since 2007 and has held leadership responsibility for ELLWOOD’s human resources function since that time. Prior to leading HR at ELLWOOD Group, Pam worked as Director of HR at ELLWOOD City Forge since 1992. She holds Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees in Business Administration from Youngstown State University. Pam resides in Poland, Ohio with her husband.

Concurrently, Carrie Rust was promoted to Vice President, Human Resources at ELLWOOD, reporting to Pam. Upon Pam’s retirement, which Pam will begin with a move to part-time in April 2020, Carrie will take Pam’s place as CHRO. Prior to joining ELLWOOD Group as Director of HR in 2014, Carrie worked for 24 years at United States Steel in benefits administration and organization development. She holds a Bachelor’s degree in Mathematics from Grove City College, a Master’s in Education from Penn State University, and an Organizational Consulting & Change Leadership certificate from Georgetown University School of Continuing Studies. Carrie lives in Wexford, PA with her husband and two children.
