ELLWOOD National Steel (ENS) in Irvine, PA announced the commissioning of its VOD unit for the production of stainless steel ingots for forging, ring rolling and as electrodes for VAR and ESR remelting. The VOD is an addition to ENS’s existing ladle furnace melt shop which has been producing carbon and alloy steel ingots for the trade since 2005 in weights up to 24 tons from melt heats up to 48 tons. ENS will also expand its ingot teeming capability to melt ingots up to 45 tons in individual weight. The VOD was manufactured and installed by SMS-Siemag, Germany.
